I always love to visit libraries, whether I be in my home town or while on travelling abroad. As a thirsty reader, I look at the multiple shelves, at the top and the bottom of them, among tens, hundreds, thousands of books, which, like rainbows of covers and ocean waves of titles, words invite to plunge into the reading. Often, I already know about the subject I am going to choose, just because it is about a specific field I am interesting in, but, sometimes, it only takes a sneak to fall in love with a book, because of its cover or title, the brief note inside to introduce both characters and the plot, the incipit or the authoritative reviews.
Recently, I’ve been carving out time to read again the story of George, an adorable little Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Indeed, “My Life with George” was published in 2007 and the BBC even made a movie from it. The author of the book, Judith Summer, a freelance journalist and specialist in the history of the 18th century, becomes one of the main characters with her 8-year-old son, Joshua. In the pleasant reading of the book, the narrator tells and focuses on funny or touching anecdotes about the way this spoilt, cheeky-looked puppy and its bizarre behaviours enters her family life with sketches of joy, tenderness and so much love, after her untimely husband’s departure.
The new week has just begun and “My Life with George” is a nice book to read and recommend while you are on a coffee break from work or in a special place for enjoying moments of well-deserved vacation.
Wishing a good week to everybody
