A Jasminum Sambac flower in bloom

“Pick a flower on Earth and you move the farthest star.”
― Paul A.M. Dirac

For my green terrace, I was looking for an old fragrance, a plant of jasminum sambac, which was very familiar to me by the time of my childhood.

We had one in the garden, but, many years ago, during an extraordinary Winter season, the snow took it away with. By the way, it was the first time for me, a little child, and it was like magic to watch those fluffy light flakes falling from the sky.

Finally, I found a jasminum sambac just few weeks ago and I planted it in a bigger vase. Today, my first jasminum sambac flower bloomed. It was there, humble and beautiful in the corner, waiting for cheering me in a delicate bright morning light and its very distinct, intense, sweet fragrance.

The jasminum sambac belongs to the olive family Oleaceae and it is an evergreen vine or shrub reaching up to 0.5 to 3 mt tall. At this proper, my idea is to let it grow like a vine and gradually trying to create a small dome-shaped pergola for it in the sheltered sky and sun light of the green terrace. It will take a little but, it is already one step forwards.

As for caring for jasminum sambac, here are a few practical tips I have asked a gardener:

– Ensure the plant receives at least 4-6 hours of sunlight daily.

– Water the plant regularly, keeping the soil moist but not overly saturated.

– Prune the plant after flowering to maintain its shape.

– Provide support for the vine to grow and train it into the desired shape.

– Consider fertilizing the plant every few months to promote healthy growth.

I hope these tips will help in caring for the jasminum sambac. Do you have any more special advice to add, by chance? It is a pleasure to hear from you.

Enjoy the last days of Summer and have a great week, everybody!
