Majestic Olive Trees: Nature’s Living Monuments

Some time ago, it was very early and I had been driving for a couple of hours in the North of Apulia direction. Suddenly, I got out of the car and, with my camera, started walking along a country path. We were in the middle of Autumn and in front of me there was a huge olive grove in the soft and sleepy light of the early morning. Centenary olive trees stood there like magnificent monuments in an open air museum. They, in their imperceptible movement, had kept in twisting their trunk and branches in a dance, bowing in homage to the sun light, which, for decades, for centuries, had been playing, touching them every day and nurturing their life.

Among those olive trees, there was one in particular, which attracted my attention and wonder. It was in a thoughtful attitude, exactly like a human being.

I am sorry Sir, I said almost in a wisper, it was not my intention to make noise or disturb your state of mind.

The olive tree seemed to smile and I could almost hear it gently saying and inviting, please, come and visit again, whenever you like, you very are welcome.
