Crisp Autumn air, what a wonderful feeling and, as if by magic, the kitchen fills with aromas that recall so many beautiful childhood moments.
Something sweet to prepare very quick. I finally found Annurca apples at the food market. I was thinking of those delicious apple fritters my mom used to make when I was a little child. They were so good. I dipped apple slices into a smooth batter, fried them and then, before arranging them on a tray, tossed the fritters in sugar and cinnamon powder. They are absolutely delicious. By the way, this particular apple cultivar is small and sweet, with a citrusy aftertaste and flavour. Have a try?
Of course, you can't say no to crisp apple chips. Slice them thinly, sprinkle them with cinnamon, and bake at 110°C for about 40 minutes (use static oven). Then flip them over and bake for another 15 to 20 minutes. The aroma is amazing, and the kids will love them!
An apple tart is among my preferred desserts, but I love also to make shortcrust to bake small pastries filled with my mom’s grape jam and walnut kernels. They are delicious with a cup of warm tea.
The first weekend of October has begun.
